maha samadhi

literally, the "great samadhi," or "great absorption." Ideally, this would be a spiritual master's final conscious exit from his body, as when Jesus "yielded up his breath" on the cross, or when Paramahamsa Yogananda left this world in 1952. In practice, it means a revered figure has died.
