dhyana
Another way of spelling jhana.
A jhanais one of the highest levels of awareness that can be reached by the practice of samadhi. There are four jhanas, which together essentially are enlightenment . This is where the monk attains supernormal powers, sees his past lives, and gains wisdom of the true character of reality.Enlightenment

Whereas dharana is simply the "holding" of one thought in mind, dhyana allows the mind to expand or reflect on that one thought. Stage 7 in Patanjali's analysis of the yoga systems. "Dhyana is the continuous flow of thought [towards the object of concentration, or dharana]." ( Yoga Sutras 3:2)
