Definition Of:

Matsyendranath

Yoga DictionaryYoga Dictionary
(aka: Matsyendra, Matsyendra Nath, Matsyendranatha, etc.) The teacher or guru of Gorakhnath (Gorakhsha), and an early exponent of Hatha Yoga. Matsyendra and Goraksha were both famous yogis who lived sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries. However, we know very little about them historically, because soon after their deaths, their accomplishments were quickly blended with myth, folklore, and magic, to the point of their virtual deification. Countless legends of them now abound throughout the north and west of India, telling of their fantastic powers and magical feats.
